The 10-Step ERP Implementation Checklist Every Business Should Follow

May 18, 2026· 9 min read

Most failed ERP implementations don't fail because of the software — they fail because of process. Modern cloud ERP platforms are powerful and flexible, but flexibility without a clear implementation framework leads to scope creep, missed deadlines and user resistance.

The ten steps we follow on every engagement: discovery workshops, current-state process mapping, gap analysis against the platform's standard modules, configuration planning, data migration strategy, custom development scoping, integration mapping (including FBR digital invoicing where relevant), user acceptance testing, phased training, and a supported go-live with a defined hypercare period.

The step most businesses underestimate is data migration. Historical data from Excel, Tally or a legacy ERP is rarely clean — reconciling opening balances, deduplicating customer/vendor records, and validating stock quantities takes real time. Budget for it explicitly rather than treating it as a footnote.

Training is the second most underestimated step. A system your team doesn't trust gets worked around, not adopted. Role-based training sessions, recorded for future reference, dramatically improve adoption rates in the first 90 days after go-live.
